The other day I was having a conversation with my cousin who told me she wanted to lose 30 lbs in the first 90 days of the year.

Truthfully she wanted to lose the weight at the beginning of last year, and then by the summer, and then before 2017 had closed out, but life happens I guess…

So a few weeks ago she reinstated her gym membership and bought all of her groceries to start cooking more. The only problem was, when she got to the gym she only knew had to use the treadmill, and when it came to cooking she wasn’t sure what else to make besides salads. Boring.

I sent her a few Pinterest workouts that didn’t require equipment and a blog post on “10 easy meals to cook at home”. I knew these resources would be super helpful. And they would’ve been… except some mornings she was just too tired, and after a long workday she didn’t feel like experimenting in the kitchen.

At this point I wondered why she didn’t just get a trainer at the gym and have some of her meals prepped by a local company. I knew her well enough that money wasn’t the issue.

So I asked her what the real reason was.

“Well I was going to lose 5 – 10 lbs by myself before getting a trainer so I could get a head start.”

“Sooo you want to lose weight before you hire someone to help you lose weight?”

As I sat there and laughed at her logic and tried to process it, I realized that I hear this same excuse all the time.

“Maya I can’t wait to work with you this year. I’m just getting my stuff together first.”

And unfortunately that’s where most people stay. Getting their stuff together.

They have their website, their social media accounts, and maybe even a few blog posts. But they never go beyond that point because they don’t know what to do with it.

Like my cousin, they have all the tools, but they just don’t know what to do with them. And they’re too busy trying to DIY to have something to show for before finally getting help.

Somewhere along the way, the vulnerability to show that we don’t have it all together has made us feel ashamed. But true strength comes when we ask for help.

You don’t have to lose weight to get help to lose weight.
You don’t have to build your website before hiring someone to build your website.
You don’t have to be clear before hiring someone to help you with clarity.

Hire people where you lack motivation and clarity so you can start seeing results.

So… are you waiting until you “have it all together” to finally get clarity and strategy in your business?

Here’s the thing. Confusion is not a sign of poor intelligence or your ability to work hard, it’s a sign that your are out of your zone of genius.

For example, my client Danielle Ayodele is one of the smartest women I know when it comes to building a professional brand and climbing the corporate ladder. But even after TEN YEARS of trying to DIY and put the pieces together, she still never got her career consulting business off the ground.

She had previously tried reading books on starting a business, downloaded all kind of free checklists and guides, watched numerous videos, purchased online courses, attended business bootcamps, hired graphic designers, tried building her own blog and website – but all of those things still required her to figure out how to put the pieces together.

It wasn’t until she finally surrendered and hired me and my team that we could help her put the pieces together and take TEN YEARS worth of ideas to make it an actual business. Imagine the results she could’ve seen had she gotten the right help ten years ago. Imagine the amount of professionals she would’ve helped excel in their career. Imagine how much additional income she could’ve brought in…

Trying to DIY to prove we know what we’re doing is chaotic and confusing. And worst of all, the lack of clarity paralyzes your purpose.

Whether we work together for quick clarity calls or you become a client of my agency, the time to fully step into your purpose and fulfill your assignment is NOW.

You were built to impact thousands, sis. Let’s do this.
